Getting Started with STEPPI

What is STEPPI?

STEPPI is a fitness app that rewards you for being active by allowing you to exchange steps you’ve earned into discounts at different outlets across Dubai.

How do I set up my STEPPI account?

Getting started with STEPPI is easy! Follow these steps to help with downloading and registering your STEPPI account:

  1. Download STEPPI from the App Store on iPhone, Google Play Store on Android, or the Huawei App Gallery on Huawei mobile.
  2. Open the STEPPI app.
  3. Tap on 'Sign Up' to create your account.
  4. Register personal details and tap on the 'Agreeto T&C' box to confirm you agree to STEPPI's Terms & Conditions.
  5. Once completed, tap on 'Register' .
  6. Enter the OTP Confirmation Code sent to your mobile phone for verification, tap 'Go' to continue.
  7. Select the mobile phone, smartwatch, or fitness wearable you will be using to track your activity data.
  8. Follow prompts to connect your device to STEPPI, make sure you select ‘Allow all’ to enable STEPPI to track activity data.
  9. To change your preferences and add an image, go to 'Profile' in the STEPPI app.

How can I sync my steps to STEPPI?

STEPPI connects to your device’s app on your mobile phone, not directly with your device. If you are worried that there is a discrepancy in your activity data, first check your fitness app if it is in sync with your device and then open STEPPI and swipe down to refresh the page.

How often should I sync my steps and active minutes?

We recommend syncing your steps every day. If you have joined a challenge, your data will not reflect on the leaderboard until you have opened your STEPPI app to sync. You can check previous days’ data by clicking on the activity icon on the home page of the STEPPI app.

IMPORTANT: if you do not sync your data on the day you have completed either 10,000 steps or 30 active minutes, you will not be able to sync data back to previous days and be included on your team’s score.

DFC 30x30 Corporate Challenge

What is the DFC 30x30 Corporate Challenge?

This year’s DFC 30x30 Corporate Challenge is powered by STEPPI. Your company’s Wellness Champion has put together specific goals for each day for you to complete within your team as part of the DFC 30x30 Corporate Challenge. There will be several teams, so make sure you are using the code given specifically to you via the email sent by the organization's Wellness Champion. This code will sort you into the right team.

I received a Corporate Code from my organization. What is it for?

The corporate challenge code, sent to you by your organization, allows you to join the corporate challenge and automatically enrolls you into the right team.

To enter the Corporate Code:

  1. Download STEPPI, complete the registration.
  2. Go to Dubai Fitness Challenge tab > tap Corporate Challenge.
  3. Enter the Challenge Code provided to you from your organization.
  4. That's it! You are now added to the challenge and your organization team

Please note, the code is case sensitive and must be entered exactly how it appears.

Where do I find the Corporate Code?

Your Corporate Challenge Code can be found in the onboarding email sent out by your organization's Wellness Champion along with simple instructions to download STEPPI and join the Dubai Fitness Challenge corporate challenge.

If you have not received the onboarding email, please reach out to your appointed organization Wellness Champion.

I have my Challenge Code and need to create a new STEPPI account. Where do I enter it?

New users can download STEPPI from the App Store, Play Store or Huawei App Gallery. Follow the instructions to create a STEPPI account. Once completed, go to the Dubai Fitness Challenge tab, click Corporate Challenge, and enter your Corporate Code to join.

I have entered my Corporate Code and have successfully joined the challenge. What’s next?

That’s it, you have joined the challenge! When it begins, you will be able to see the leaderboard and your contribution to the team. Technical tip: you must open STEPPI every day of the challenge and sync it to be included in your team’s daily score.

Where do I see the rules of the challenge and the leaderboard formula?

You can view all details of the challenge rules and how it works within the DFC 30x30 Corporate Challenge on the STEPPI app by clicking ‘rules’ within the challenge info.

Should my 10,000 steps or 30 active minutes be completed consecutively?

No, you have the full 24 hours to complete your 10,000 steps or 30 active minutes for each day of the challenge. Once completed, we recommend opening the STEPPI app to sync the data to the leaderboard. Remember, you must sync every day for the completion to be included in your team's leaderboard score.

My exercise is yoga or swimming. Will this be counted into my team’s daily score?

If your wearable device records your fitness activity as active minutes, you will be able to sync those minutes to the STEPPI challenge. Please note that STEPPI does not record your activity, but your data from your fitness app of choice and each has its own algorithms to track activity data.

Can I manually add my activity to the challenge?

No, the data added to the challenge cannot be manually added. STEPPI can only sync physically tracked data from the fitness app connected to STEPPI.

What fitness activities can I track from my smartphone?

You can track activity via Google Fit (Android) and Apple Health (iOS) on your smartphone, the smartphone apps allow you to track steps, distance and calories.

What if I am travelling overseas. Can I continue the challenge?

STEPPI challenges are designed to encourage you to be active from wherever you are in the world. Once registered, you can continue to be active and sync your activity data to the challenge by opening the STEPPI app.

Can I leave the challenge?

Although we would love for you to stay and complete the whole 30 days, you may leave the challenge whenever you like. Click the 3 dots on the top right corner of the challenge and select “Leave Challenge”.

Please note that you will not be able to rejoin the challenge.

Connecting your device to STEPPI

STEPPI is compatible with the majority of smart phones, smartwatches and fitness wearables. Don't worry if you can't see your device here – you can head to ‘I Can't See My Device’ section for instructions on how to connect.

How to Connect Your iPhone

STEPPI connects to iOS phones via the Apple Health app, which allows you to track activity data like steps and distance through your iPhone. You may need to download the Apple Health app from the Apple store if your device does not already have the app installed.

Follow these steps to connect your iPhone to STEPPI:

  1. Complete the sign-up process on STEPPI; follow prompts to choose your device.
  2. Tap iPhone/Apple Watch from the list of devices and click ‘CONNECT’.
  3. Follow prompts to allow STEPPI to access your activity data.
  4. You will see a connection confirmation. Select ‘OK’ to proceed.
  5. Awesome! Your Apple Health account is now connected to STEPPI.

How to Connect Your Samsung Phone

STEPPI connects to Samsung via the Google Fit app, which allows you to track activity data like steps and distance through your Samsung mobile phone. We currently do not connect directly with your Samsung phone, but we’re working on it soon!

In the meantime, here’s how you can connect your Samsung phone to STEPPI via Google Fit:

  1. Download Google Fit for FREE from the Google Play store.
  2. Once you have downloaded Google Fit, select Google Fit to track your activity on the STEPPI app, this will track activity data from your mobile phone. (Note: you must carry your mobile phone with you to enable the activity tracking).

If you would like to try to connect your Samsung Health app, please continue with the following steps: (please note that this option relies on several apps connectivity before it reaches STEPPI. The data may not always reflect accurately).

  1. Download Google Health Sync from Google Play Store and open the Health Sync app.
  2. Follow instructions to set up Health Sync app.
  3. When selecting your Sync Direction, choose to sync from Samsung Health and select Samsung Health to Google Fit as your Sync Direction.
  4. Select the 'Check Google Fit Connection' button and select the same Google account you have connected in Google Fit. Select 'Allow'to give Health Sync access to Google Fit.
  5. Select the 'Check Activity Tracking in Google Fit' and make sure Google Fit Tracking is turned 'Off' then select 'OK'.
  6. Lastly, click to check the data you want Health Sync to share with Google Fit, and turn on 'All permissions' when prompted.

Note: The above instruction to connect to Health Sync is a solution for those seeking an alternative to syncing steps to STEPPI via Google Fit. STEPPI is not responsible for data tracked via Samsung Health Sync, and all Samsung related questions should go to Samsung Health support here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/samsung-health

How to Connect Your Android Phone

STEPPI connects to Android phones via the Google Fit app, which allows you to track activity data like steps and distance through your Android mobile phone. You may need to download the Google Fit app from the Google Play store if your device does not already have the app installed.

Follow these steps to connect your Android phone to the STEPPI app:

Note: you will not be able to connect to Google Fit on STEPPI app unless the Google Fit app has been installed on your Android device and an account is created.

  1. Complete the sign-up process on STEPPI; follow prompts to choose your device.
  2. Tap Android/Google Fit from the list of devices and click ‘CONNECT’ .
  3. Follow prompts to allow STEPPI to access your activity data.
  4. You will see a connection confirmation. Select ‘OK’ to proceed.
  5. Awesome! Your Google Fit account is now connected to STEPPI.

How to Connect Your Huawei Phone

Huawei connects to STEPPI through the Huawei Health app, which allows you to track activity data like steps and distance through your Huawei mobile phone. You may need to download the Huawei Health app from the Huawei App Gallery if your device does not already have the app installed.

Follow these steps to connect your Huawei mobile phone to the STEPPI app:

  1. Complete the sign-up process on STEPPI; follow prompts to choose your device.
  2. Tap Huawei Health from the list of devices and click ‘CONNECT’.
  3. Follow prompts to allow STEPPI to access your activity data.
  4. You will see a connection confirmation. Select ‘OK’ to proceed.
  5. Awesome! Your Google Fit account is now connected to STEPPI.

How to Connect Your Apple Watch

Follow these steps to connect your Apple Watch to the STEPPI app:

  1. Complete the sign-up process on STEPPI; follow prompts to choose your device.
  2. Tap iPhone/Apple Watch from the list of devices and click ‘CONNECT’.
  3. The Apple Health app will open on your mobile phone. Allow STEPPI to access your data by turning all the data categories to 'ON' and tapping 'Allow'.

How to Connect Your Fitbit

Follow these steps to connect your Fitbit to the STEPPI app:

  1. Complete the sign-up process on STEPPI; follow prompts to choose your device.
  2. Tap Fitbit from the list of devices and click ‘CONNECT’.
  3. A Fitbit page will open on your mobile phone. Allow STEPPI to access your data by selecting the 'Allow All' box followed by 'Allow'.

Note: your default setting may be set to allow for 1 day. We recommend changing this to 1 year.

How to Connect Your Garmin

Follow these steps to connect your Garmin to the STEPPI app:

  1. Complete the sign-up process on STEPPI; follow prompts to choose your device.
  2. Tap Garmin from the list of devices and click ‘CONNECT’.
  3. A Garmin page will open on your mobile phone. Allow STEPPI to access your data by selecting the 'Allow All' box followed by 'Allow'.
  4. Awesome! Your Garmin is now connected to STEPPI.

How to Connect Your Huawei Watch

Follow these steps to connect your Huawei Watch to the STEPPI app:

  1. Complete the sign-up process on STEPPI; follow prompts to choose your device.
  2. Tap Huawei Health from the list of devices and click ‘CONNECT’.
  3. The Huawei Health app will open on your mobile phone. Allow STEPPI to access your data by selecting the 'Allow All' box followed by 'Allow'.
  4. Awesome! Your Huawei is now connected to STEPPI.

I can’t see my device on the list above. Can I still use STEPPI?

Here at STEPPI, we aim to make fitness fun and accessible to all. We connect to most wearable devices, but if you can't see your device listed, here are alternative options to connect:

  • If you prefer to try to connect your wearable, it is possible to check if your device's app can connect steps via the Google Fit app (Android) or Apple Health app (iPhone). Go to your wearable application on your mobile phone and go to settings to check compatibility with Google Fit (Android) or Apple Health (iOS).
  • Follow the instructions to connect your device's app to Google Fit or Apple Health app. To check if the steps are syncing in Google Fit or Apple Health from your device, open the device application, and then Google Fit or Apple Health.
  • To successfully sync your steps to STEPPI, first open the device's app and then Google Fit or Apple Health and last open STEPPI app to confirm if steps are being tracked.

Note: Connecting to STEPPI through these alternative options may not accurately reflect your data. If this is the case, we recommend connect through your mobile phone, which will count your steps only when your phone is carried.

Troubleshooting your devices

My steps are not syncing from my device to the STEPPI app.

If you’re having issues syncing your activities from your device to the STEPPI app, you can find your device below for the corresponding troubleshooting recommendations.

Troubleshooting iPhone or Apple Watch

If your activity data is correct in the Apple Health app, but doesn’t reflect accordingly to STEPPI after syncing, you can check if you have allowed STEPPI to read the data in Apple Health app settings:

  1. Open Apple Health app, tap ‘Profile’ top right.
  2. Under privacy click ‘Apps’.
  3. Find STEPPI and make sure all options are toggled ‘On’ and are highlighted in green.

If you discover no steps are displayed in the Apple Health app, check the built-in pedometer in your iPhone to make sure it is turned ‘On’ and enable steps to track and sync to STEPPI:

  1. Open your iPhone's ‘Settings’.
  2. Tap ‘Privacy’ and ‘Motion & Fitness’.
  3. Check all boxes are set to ‘On’or highlighted green.

If you are trying to sync an alternative device like Polar or Xiaomi through the Apple Health app, then we recommend trouble shooting the connection between your device and the Apple Health app.

If you have checked all of the above and the steps are not syncing, we recommend removing the device connection on STEPPI and reconnecting.

Troubleshooting Google Fit

If you have read and completed the steps to connect STEPPI to your Google Fit app and the data is still not syncing to STEPPI, find out the most common reasons here:

Make sure your check the settings in Google Fit to see if you have the activity tracking turned on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Fit app on your phone.
  2. Tap ‘Profile’.
  3. Go to ‘Settings’.
  4. Find ‘Activity tracking’ and select automatic activity tracking ‘On’.

If you still can’t see your steps, check if you have connected the correct Google account when getting set up on STEPPI

  1. Open the Google Fit app.
  2. Go to ‘Profile’.
  3. See the email listed under your name.
  4. After confirming your email address, you can reconnect your Google Fit to STEPPI, make sure to select the same Google account that you’ve connected to Google Fit.

Troubleshooting Fitbit

If you have read and completed the steps to connect STEPPI to your Fitbit app and the data is still not syncing to STEPPI, find out the most common reasons here:

  • The authorization time from Fitbit has expired so Fitbit is no longer allowing the data to be shared, you can reconnect your Fitbit to Steppi – we recommend selecting allow for 1 year.
  • An issue occurs within the Fitbit cloud and data is not being tracked – we recommend closing the Fitbit app and opening again.
  • If you have checked all of the above and the steps are not syncing, we recommend removing the device connection on STEPPI and reconnecting.

Troubleshooting Garmin

If you have followed all the steps to connect to Garmin and your steps are still not syncing, we recommend removing the connection on STEPPI app and re-connecting.

STEPPI may not read all of the data on the first day of connection because Garmin only allows data to be tracked from the point of making the connection, not the whole day. \

If you are still having issues syncing your data, we recommend removing the device connection on STEPPI and reconnecting.

Can I change my fitness tracker?

Yes, you can change your preferred device at anytime on the STEPPI app by following these steps:

  • Go to 'Profile' tab on STEPPI.
  • Tap 'You Connected Via'.
  • Click the device of choice from the list and 'CONNECT'.
  • Follow prompts to allow STEPPI to track your data.
  • Go to the STEPPI home page and swipe down to sync data.

If you are having trouble syncing, head to the section about ‘Connecting Your Device to STEPPI’.

Will I lose my previous synced steps if I changed my fitness tracker?

No, you will NOT lose any data even after changing your preferred device. STEPPI will continue to track your steps using your new chosen device, once you have connected.

You can only track data to your STEPPI account from one device at a time, so please ensure you have synced your data before changing devices.
